Florevolution Series
Medium + Materials: photography and acrylic paints
Size/Scale: 8x10 photo print in 8.5x11 frames
The Florevolution Series is a series of photos taken by me inspired by the changing of seasons and the ways in which vegetation transforms around us. The title is a play on the words ‘flora’ and ‘revolution’ because the seasons are caused by the revolution of the earth around the sun, and what is changing is the vegetation and the flowers. I have taken local black and white photographs of trees and bushes located in my San Marcos area and then painted the respective plants on the photos based upon the country of origin - in a way reflecting on places I have gone to and wish to go to in my lifetime. Fall foliage is represented by the ways that trees and vegetation change in many regions of the United States. For winter, I have created a painting of Canadian holly which grows in the winter season. For spring, I represented the country of Japan by painting Japanese cherry blossoms. And for summer, I have represented Australia and the flowers prominent in the summer season – Kangaroo’s Paw and Lilly Pilly.
