If Only

By: Julia Vasquez

Medium: Edited photography series projected onto walls

The If Only series was inspired by quarantine boredom.

I was so fed up with creating in my usual mediums that I decided to pick up something I hadn’t touched since I was in high school, and that was my camera. A lot of the time I find myself reciting the same sort of phrases over and over again in my head, replaying events or scenarios that were of particularly embarrassing or cringe worthy moments. If only I’d been more talkative during that meeting, if only I’d said that joke to my friend, if only I’d confessed to my crush that one time. These photos were taken and edited during a time when there wasn’t much going on in my life. There wasn’t anything to look back on, at the time there was only the here and now; during which I felt as though I could rot away from the monotony of simply being alive. My images were shot and put together without much direction or meaning, and were primarily an outlet I just knew I was having an immense amount of fun with.

So, I hope such gets across to you as well, thanks!
