One thing I’ve always loved about art is how a piece can have such a deep meaning to the artist regardless of the appearance, and such is the case with my work. My designs read as effortless and unplanned, and while I often let the pencil guide my hand, with each iteration, I find my paintings hold more and more emotion. I keep my work abstract because I enjoy letting the observer take from it what they will, but to my mind, my Sqiugg paintings are the visual representation of my ineffable feelings of anxiety. The twisting and turning in on oneself are feelings that have been a part of my reality for as long as I can remember, and each time these designs are used in a piece, I uncover, and at times let go of, aspects of myself. The art has become therapeutic for me.
I enjoy the prospect of cross-pollinating my designs with objects to bring new meanings to them. To mix emotions and usable objects for the everyday is a concept that interests me with its promise of infinite interpretations and possibilities. Each person can have their own opinion as complex or as simple as they want. Keeping my work accessible and comprehensible for everyone is an important value that I have come to hold within my practice. I want art to be available for anyone who wants or needs it as I do.
